Removal And Installation

NOTE:
Position a suitable protective material in front of the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) or damage to the CAC may occur.
- Remove the degas bottle. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
- Loosen the clamp and remove the degas bottle-to-engine hose.
- Loosen the clamp, disconnect the heater hose and position it aside.
- Disconnect the Exhaust Pressure (EP) sensor electrical connector and retainer.
- Disconnect the wiring harness retainers from the LH valve cover bracket. Disconnect the glow plug electrical connector.
- Disconnect the wiring harness retainer and position the engine wiring aside.
- Remove the oil level indicator and tube nut.
- To install, tighten to 31 Nm (23 lb-ft).
- Remove the oil level indicator and tube bolt, detach the tube from the engine block and position the tube aside. Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- To install, tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).
- Using an appropriate tool, dislodge the glow plug wiring harness seals from the valve cover.
- Disconnect the glow plug electrical connectors by pulling on the glow plug wiring harness tee above the seal. Remove the glow plug wiring harness.
- Remove the 4 turbocharger crossover tube bolts.
- To install, tighten to 31 Nm (23 lb-ft).
- Disconnect the EP sensor tube fitting from the EGR oxidation pipe.
- To install, tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
- Remove the nut and the EP sensor and tube assembly.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Remove the 4 LH valve cover bracket nuts.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Remove the 3 LH valve cover bracket assembly nuts. Separate and remove the upper and lower LH valve cover brackets.
- To install, tighten to 31 Nm (23 lb-ft).
- Remove the 6 bolts, the 4 stud bolts and the LH valve cover. Remove the discard the valve cover gasket.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install a new valve cover gasket.
- Alternate tightening the valve cover bolts to tighten evenly.
- Make sure that the turbocharger crossover tube is square to the turbocharger when the valve cover bracket is installed.
NOTE:
Do not disconnect the glow plug electrical connector before dislodging the seal from the valve cover or the wiring harness may be damaged.
