Oil Pan - Lower, Body On: Installation

All vehicles 

  1. Install a new press-in-place gasket for the oil pan.
  2. NOTE: Install a new O-ring seal on the oil pick up tube and place the tube in the oil pan.
  3. Position the oil pan and install the pickup tube.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).
  4. Install the oil pan and the 22 bolts.
    1. Install the 5 longer oil pan bolts.
    2. Install the remaining oil pan bolts.
      • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  6. Lower the engine.
  7. If equipped, position the transmission filter bracket assembly and install the transmission-to-engine bolts.
    • Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).

  9. If equipped, connect the transmission cooler tubes at the external transmission filter.
    • Install the retaining clips.

  11. If equipped, connect the transmission cooler tubes at the external filter.
    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

  13. Position back the transmission cooler tubes on the stud and install the nut.
    • Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

  15. Position back the ground cable and install the bolt.
    • Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).

  17. Loosely install the exhaust downpipe bolts.

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when installing the transmission mount retaining nuts or damage to the transmission mount may occur.
  19. Remove and discard the transmission mount retaining nuts. Install the new transmission mount retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when installing the engine mount retaining nuts or damage to the engine mount may occur.
  21. Install the new LH engine mount retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 200 Nm (148 lb-ft).

  23. Install the 2 new upper studs for the RH engine mount.
    • Tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft).

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when installing the engine mount retaining nuts or damage to the engine mount may occur.
  25. Install the new RH engine mount retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

  27. Position the RH turbocharger inlet pipe in the vehicle.

    NOTE: Failure to correctly install the high-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield may result in engine damage.
    NOTE: High-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield removed for clarity.
  29. Install the high-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield in the vehicle and install the 2 center bolts.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

    NOTE: Engine removed from the vehicle for clarity.
  31. Position the fuel tube bracket and ground strap. Install the retaining nuts and bolt for the high pressure fuel pump heat shield.
    • Tighten the fuel line bracket nuts to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
    • Tighten the remaining fasteners to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  33. Position the EGR-OC pipe in the vehicle.

  35. Connect the EGRT sensor electrical connector to the glow plug module bracket.

  37. Install the glow plug module and retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  39. Connect the glow plug module electrical connectors.

    NOTE: Use a socket to aid on installing the push nuts.
  41. Install the glow plug module heat shield and push nuts.

  43. Connect the PCM electrical connector and wire retainer.

    NOTE: Install a new press-in-place gasket.
  45. Install the crankcase vent oil separator and bolts.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  47. Connect the crankcase vent oil separator drain tube.

  49. With the help of an assistant, install the hood and bolts. Connect the hood lift rods.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  51. Connect the underhood light electrical connector and pin-type retainers.

  53. Connect the windshield washer hose.

    Vehicles with brake vacuum pump (belt driven) 

  55. Install the brake vacuum pump. For additional information, refer to POWER BRAKE ACTUATION article.
  56. Vehicles with dual generator 

  57. Install the secondary generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR AND REGULATOR article.
  58. All vehicles 

  59. Install the upper cooling fan shroud. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
  60. Install the turbocharger. Carry out the Turbocharger - Body On procedure. For additional information, refer to FUEL CHARGING AND CONTROLS - TURBOCHARGER article.
  61. Connect the battery ground cables. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
  62. Fill the engine with the correct motor oil for the climate. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
