Engine Mount - LH, Body On: Removal

NOTE: Position a suitable protective material in front of the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) or damage to the CAC may occur.
NOTE: It is recommended that this component be serviced with the vehicle body partially lifted. If the vehicle body can be partially lifted, refer to Engine Mount - LH, Partial Body Lift .

All vehicles 

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cables. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
  2. Remove the turbocharger. Carry out the Turbocharger - Body On procedure. For additional information, refer to FUEL CHARGING AND CONTROLS - TURBOCHARGER article.
  3. Remove the upper cooling fan shroud. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
  4. Vehicles with dual generator 

  5. Remove the secondary generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR AND REGULATOR article.
  6. Vehicles with brake vacuum pump (belt driven) 

  7. Remove the brake vacuum pump. For additional information, refer to POWER BRAKE ACTUATION article.
  8. All vehicles 

  9. Disconnect the windshield washer hose.

  11. Disconnect the underhood light electrical connector and pin-type retainers. Position the wiring aside.

    NOTE: Mark the location of the hinges prior to removing the hood.
  13. With the help of an assistant, disconnect the hood lift rods. Remove the 4 bolts and the hood.

  15. Disconnect the crankcase vent oil separator drain tube.

  17. Remove the 4 bolts and the crankcase vent oil separator.
    • Remove and discard the press-in-place gasket.

  19. Disconnect the PCM electrical connector and wire retainer.

  21. Remove the 3 push nuts and glow plug module heat shield.
    • Discard the push nuts.

  23. Disconnect the glow plug module electrical connectors.
    • Position the glow plug electrical connectors out from under the cowl.

  25. Remove the 2 nuts and glow plug module.

  27. Disconnect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature (EGRT) sensor electrical connector from the glow plug bracket.

  29. Remove the EGR-Oxidation Catalytic Converter (OC) pipe from the vehicle.

    NOTE: Engine removed from the vehicle for clarity.
  31. Remove the bolt and the 5 retaining nuts for the high-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield. Remove the fuel tube bracket and position the ground strap.

    NOTE: High-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield removed for clarity.
  33. Remove the remaining 2 bolts and the high-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield.

  35. Remove the RH turbocharger inlet pipe.

  37. Remove and discard the 4 RH engine mount retaining nuts.

  39. Remove and discard the 2 upper studs for the RH motor mount.

  41. Remove and discard the 3 LH engine mount retaining nuts.

  43. Loosen the 2 transmission mount retaining nuts.

  45. Remove the 2 exhaust downpipe bolts.

  47. Remove the bolt and position aside the ground cable.

  49. Remove the retaining nut for the transmission cooler tubes. Disconnect the transmission cooler tubes from the stud.

  51. Remove the bolt. Remove the oil level indicator and tube and position aside.
    • Remove and discard the O-ring seal.

  53. Disconnect the fuel hoses at the engine.
    • Plug or cap the openings.

  55. Install the Engine Lifting Bracket on the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) bracket.

    NOTE: Use a Heavy Duty Lifting Crane and load leveler rated at a minimum of 907 kg (2,000 lb) or damage to the vehicle may occur.
    NOTE: It will be necessary to position the exhaust downpipe aside to get the lift that is required to remove the engine mount.
  57. Position the Heavy Duty Lifting Crane with a commercially available load leveler and attach the chains to the front of the engine.

    NOTE: Make sure the exhaust downpipe is loose during the raising of the engine or damage to the vehicle may occur.
  59. Raise the Heavy Duty Lifting Crane as needed to get the required lift to remove the LH engine mount.
  60. Support the engine with jackstands or other suitable support devices.
  61. Remove and discard the center bolt for the LH engine mount.
    • Separate the engine mount from the bracket.
  62. NOTE: The engine mount bracket bolts must be discarded and new bolts installed or damage to the vehicle may occur. They are a torque-to-yield design and cannot be reused.
  63. Remove and discard the 4 bolts and the LH engine mount bracket and mount.
    • Rotate the LH engine mount bracket to the front and then remove the LH engine mount. Remove the LH engine mount bracket.
    • Position the spacer on the engine mount bracket out to aid installing the new engine mount.
