Engine Mount - LH, Body On: Installation

All vehicles 

  1. Clean the engine support insulator-to-cylinder block and engine support insulator-to-frame mating surfaces of any dirt or foreign material prior to installation.
    2. NOTE: The engine mount bracket bolts must be discarded and new bolts installed or damage to the vehicle may occur. They are a torque-to-yield design and cannot be reused.
    NOTE: The engine mount bracket bolts must not be tightened more than 90 degrees after initial torque or damage to the bolts may occur.
    NOTE: Place a visible mark on the engine mount bracket and bracket bolts. Turning the bolt 1 flat of the bolt head is equal to 60 degrees.
    NOTE: Install the top rear bolt first.
  2. Position the LH engine mount and bracket and install the 4 new bolts. Tighten in 2 stages:
    • It will be necessary to lower the engine slightly to start the bolts.
    • Stage 1: Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
    • Stage 2: Tighten a minimum of an additional 60 degrees.
    3. NOTE: It may be necessary to lower the engine to aid in installing the center bolt.
    NOTE: Do not tighten the bolt at this time.
  3. Install the new center bolt for the LH engine mount.
  4. Lower the engine.
  5. Tighten the center bolt for the LH motor mount.
    • Tighten to 350 Nm (258 lb-ft).
  6. Connect the fuel hoses at the engine.

    NOTE: Install a new O-ring seal on the oil indicator and tube. Apply clean engine oil to the O-ring seal.
  7. Install the oil indicator tube and the bolt.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  8. Position back the transmission cooler tubes on the stud and install the nut.
    • Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

  9. Position back the ground cable and install the bolt.
    • Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).

  10. Loosely install the 2 exhaust downpipe bolts.

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when installing the transmission mount retaining nuts or damage to the transmission mount may occur.
  11. Remove and discard the 2 transmission mount retaining nuts. Install the 2 new transmission mount retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when installing the engine mount retaining nuts or damage to the engine mount may occur.
  12. Install the 3 new LH engine mount retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 200 Nm (148 lb-ft).

  13. Install the 2 new upper studs for the RH engine mount.
    • Tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft).

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when installing the engine mount retaining nuts or damage to the engine mount may occur.
  14. Install the 4 new RH engine mount retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

  15. Position the RH turbocharger inlet pipe in the vehicle.

    NOTE: Failure to correctly install the high-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield may result in engine damage.
    NOTE: High-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield removed for clarity.
  16. Install the high-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield in the vehicle and install the 2 center bolts.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

    NOTE: Engine removed from the vehicle for clarity.
  17. Position the fuel tube bracket and ground strap. Install the 5 retaining nuts and bolt for the high pressure fuel pump heat shield.
    • Tighten the fuel line bracket nuts to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
    • Tighten the remaining fasteners to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  18. Position the EGR-OC pipe in the vehicle.

  19. Connect the EGRT sensor connector to the glow plug module bracket.

  20. Install the glow plug module and 2 retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  21. Connect the glow plug module electrical connectors.

    NOTE: Use a socket to aid on installing the push nuts.
  22. Install the glow plug module heat shield and 3 new push nuts.

  23. Connect the PCM electrical connector and wire retainer.

    NOTE: Install a new press-in-place gasket.
  24. Install the crankcase vent oil separator and 4 bolts.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  25. Connect the crankcase vent oil separator drain tube.

  26. With the help of an assistant, install the hood and 4 bolts. Connect the hood lift rods.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  27. Connect the underhood light electrical connector and pin-type retainers.

  28. Connect the windshield washer hose.

    Vehicles with brake vacuum pump (belt driven) 

  29. Install the brake vacuum pump. For additional information, refer to POWER BRAKE ACTUATION article.

    30. Vehicles with dual generator 

  30. Install the secondary generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR AND REGULATOR article.

    31. All vehicles 

  31. Install the upper cooling fan shroud. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
  32. Install the turbocharger. Carry out the Turbocharger - Body On procedure. For additional information, refer to FUEL CHARGING AND CONTROLS - TURBOCHARGER article.
  33. Connect the battery ground cables. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
