Test C: Oil Pressure Gauge Inaccurate

NOTE: Ensure engine oil level is correct. Verify oil pressure switch Black 1-pin harness connector C103 is securely connected. A momentary drop in oil pressure is normal during hard braking.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If oil pressure gauge reads low, go to next step. If oil pressure gauge does not read low, go to step  5.
  2. Start engine. If oil pressure gauge reads in normal range, check for intermittent problem. If oil pressure gauge does not read in normal range, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster White 16-pin harness connector C220a. Start engine. Measure resistance between instrument cluster White 16-pin harness connector C220a terminals No. 5 (Black/White wire) and No. 6 (White/Red wire). See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect oil pressure switch Black 1-pin harness connector C103. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and oil pressure switch Black 1-pin harness connector C103 terminal (White/Red wire). Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster White 16-pin harness connector C220a terminal No. 6 (White/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace oil pressure switch. See appropriate article in ENGINES. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in White/Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster White 16-pin harness connector C220a. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster White 16-pin harness connector C220a terminal No. 6 (White/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
  6. Disconnect oil pressure switch Black 1-pin harness connector C103. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster White 16-pin harness connector C220a terminal No. 6 (White/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in White/Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace oil pressure switch. See appropriate article in ENGINES. Retest system operation.
