Test Z: Low Tire Indicator Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe low tire warning indicator. Low tire warning indicator should illuminate for 3 seconds, then turn off. If low tire warning indicator operates as specified, go to step  3 . If low tire warning indicator does not operate as specified, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), located beneath instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Verify Instrument Cluster Module (ICM) is configured to low tire warning system. If ICM is configured to low tire warning system, go to next step. If ICM is not configured to low tire warning system, reconfigure ICM. See MODULE CONFIGURATION  under PROGRAMMING.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect NGS tester. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, select ICM PID ATWSW with low tire warning switch in off and on positions. If PID agrees with low tire warning switch positions, inspect Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) speed sensors for possible concern. See ANTI-LOCK/ TRACTION CONTROL - WINDSTAR article in BRAKES. If PID does not agrees with switch position, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect low tire warning switch 6-pin harness connector. Press and hold low tire warning switch in on position. Measure resistance between terminals (component side) at low tire warning switch. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace low tire warning switch.
  5. Measure resistance between ground and low tire warning switch harness connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  6. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C241. Measure resistance of White/Black wire between instrument cluster harness connector C241 terminal No. 2 and low tire warning switch harness connector terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in White/Black wire.
  7. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they seat correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. Clear DTCs and perform instrument cluster self-test. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
