Test S: Odometer Inoperative (DTC U1123)

NOTE: If instrument cluster does not receive odometer rolling count status for 2 seconds, dashes will be displayed in odometer display and ABS warning light will be on.
  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If no DTCs were retrieved, go to next step. If DTC U1123 is retrieved, repair anti-lock brake concern. See ANTI-LOCK/TRACTION CONTROL - WINDSTAR article in BRAKES. If any other DTCs were retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Using NGS tester, select ODOMETER READING function test. Vehicle odometer reading should be retrieved in miles and kilometers. If odometer reading is retrieved, go to next step. If odometer readings are not retrieved, go to step  4 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Press trip odometer button. Display should change odometer to trip odometer. If display changes specified, system is okay. If display does not change as specified, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they seat correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. Clear DTCs and perform instrument cluster self-test. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
