Test L: High Beam Indicator Is Inoperative (DTC B2586)

  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If no DTCs were retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B2586 is retrieved, repair headlight high beam concern. Perform TEST I: HIGH BEAMS ARE INOPERATIVE under SYSTEM TESTS in AUTOLAMP SYSTEMS - WINDSTAR article. If any other DTCs were retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ACC position. Turn headlight switch to on position. Verify multifunction switch is in high beam position. Using NGS tester, select and monitor ICM PID LSWMODE with multifunction switch in high beam position. If PID reads HIGH_B, go to next step. If PID does not read HIGH_B, repair headlight high beam concern. Perform TEST I: HIGH BEAMS ARE INOPERATIVE under SYSTEM TESTS in AUTOLAMP SYSTEMS - WINDSTAR article.
  3. Using NGS tester, monitor ICM WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME active command. Trigger ALL LAMPS active. If high beam indicator turns on, system is operating properly at this time. If high beam indicator does not turn on, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they seat correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. Clear DTCs and perform instrument cluster self-test. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
