Test J: DTC C1233 LF, C1234 RF, C1235 RR, C1236 LR, Or C1222 - Abs Sensor Signal Missing Or Erratic (2001 Models)

  1. Retrieve DTCS

    Connect scan tool. Retrieve and record DTCs. If DTC C1145, C1155, C1165 or C1175 is retrieved, diagnose these DTCs first. Go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  table. If these DTCs are not retrieved, go to next step.

  2. Repeatability Drive Test

    With scan tool, monitor ABCM Parameters Identifications (PIDs) using LF_WSPD, RF_WSPD, RR_WSPD and LR_WSPD. Drive vehicle at various speeds. If ABS sensor signals match consistently, go to next step. If signals do not match, go to step  4.

  3. Check For DTC Repeatability

    Monitor wheel speed PIDs while driving vehicle on rough roads, applying brakes often. Run vehicle through car wash. If wheel speed sensor PIDs match, go to INTERMITTENT DIAGNOSIS . If wheel speed sensor PIDs do not match, go to next step.

  4. Check Suspect ABS Sensor Indicator

    Raise vehicle on hoist. Carefully examine ABS sensor indicators for any signs of damage or missing teeth. Rotate ABS sensor and check all teeth. If suspect ABS sensor indicator is damaged, replace indicator, clear DTCs and repeat self-test. If ABS sensor indicators are okay, go to next step.

  5. Check Sensor Mounting

    Wiggle suspect sensor at wheel end. If looseness is found, tighten sensor bolt. Clear DTCs and repeat self-test. If mounting is okay, go to step  7.

  6. Check For ABS Sensor Circuit Short To Ground

    Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABCM connector C111. Disconnect suspect ABS sensor connector. Measure resistance between suspect ABS sensor connector terminals on wiring harness side and ground. If resistances are more than 10 k/ohms, replace sensor. Clear DTCs and repeat self-test. If resistances are less than 10 k/ohms, repair suspect sensor circuit(s), clear DTCs and repeat self-test.

  7. Check Suspect ABS Sensor For Damage

    Turn ignition off. Remove suspect ABS sensor. Inspect housing for any cracks or other damage. Check ABS sensor connector for moisture, corrosion or foreign debris. If any of these conditions is present, install new ABS sensor and thoroughly clean the connectors. Clear DTCs, then repeat self-test. If sensor housing and connectors are okay, go to INTERMITTENT DIAGNOSIS .
