Test U: Message Center Compass Inoperative (DTC U2013)

  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform Message Center Module (MCM) self-test. If DTC U2013 is retrieved, go to next step. If any other DTCs were retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTCs retrieved. See MESSAGE CENTER MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DTCs were retrieved, go to step  5 .
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect compass module 4-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and compass module harness connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire). If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Red/Yellow wire between compass module and central junction box.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and compass module harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire between compass module and ground point. Ground point is located behind left kick panel.
  4. Remove instrument cluster and disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C239. Measure resistance of White/Orange wire between compass module harness connector terminal No. 3 and instrument cluster harness connector C239 terminal No. 13. Measure resistance between ground and compass module harness connector terminal No. 3 (White/Orange wire). Measure resistance of White/Black wire between compass module harness connector terminal No. 4 and instrument cluster harness connector C239 terminal No. 12. Measure resistance between ground and compass module harness connector terminal No. 4 (White/Black wire). Resistance should be less than 5 ohms between instrument cluster and compass module and 10 k/ohms or more between compass module and ground. If all resistances are as specified, connect instrument cluster harness connector and go to next step. If any resistance is not as specified, repair open or short in White/Orange wire and/or White/Black wire.
  5. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select compass/outside temperature display. Observe message center display. If outside temperature display is not operating correctly, perform TEST X: MESSAGE CENTER OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE DISPLAY OPERATES INCORRECTLY  . If outside temperature display is operating correctly, replace compass sensor module.
