Test M: Low Washer Fluid Warning Display Inoperative (DTC B1482)

  1. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, perform Front Electronic Module (FEM) self-test. If DTC B1482 is retrieved, go to next step. If no DTCs were retrieved, go to step  4 . If any other DTCs were retrieved, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See FRONT ELECTRONIC MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Using NGS tester, select and monitor FEM PID WFLUID. If PID reads LOW, go to next step. If PID does not read LOW, go to step  9 .
  3. Disconnect washer fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector. Monitor FEM PID WFLUID. If PID reads OK, replace low washer fluid level switch. If PID does not read OK, repair short to ground in Gray wire.
  4. Disconnect washer fluid level switch 2-pin harness connector. Using NGS tester, monitor FEM PID WFLUID. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and washer fluid level switch harness connector terminal No. 1 (Gray wire). Monitor FEM PID WFLUID. If PID does not read OK and change to LOW, remove jumper, exit FEM PID and go to next step. If fused jumper wire blows, remove jumper and go to step  6 . If PID changes from OK to LOW, go to step  7 .
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect FEM 22-pin harness connector C191. Measure resistance of Gray wire between FEM harness connector C191 terminal No. 15 and washer fluid level switch harness connector terminal. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Gray wire.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect FEM 22-pin harness connector C191. Measure voltage between ground and FEM harness connector C191 terminal No. 15 (Gray wire). See Figure . If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Gray wire. If voltage does not exist, replace FEM.
  7. Measure resistance between ground and washer fluid level switch harness connector terminal Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
  8. Measure resistance between washer fluid level switch terminals (component side), while reservoir is empty and then full. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms when empty and 10 k/ohms or more when full. If resistance is as specified, go to step  10 . If resistance is not as specified, replace low washer fluid level switch.
  9. Disconnect all FEM harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all FEM harness connectors, ensuring they seat correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace FEM. Clear DTCs and perform FEM self-test. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
  10. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they seat correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. Clear DTCs and perform instrument cluster self-test. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
