Test Ac: Instrument Cluster Module Illumination Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connectors. It may be necessary to remove instrument cluster for access to connectors. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . Turn headlight switch to ON position. Rotate headlight switch thumbwheel to brightest position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C251 terminal No. 4 (Light Blue/Red wire). See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Light Blue/Red wire between instrument cluster and central junction box Fuse No. 37 (5-amp). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  2. Turn headlight switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C251 terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 20 (Black/White wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less at both terminals, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is more than 5 ohms at either terminal, repair open in appropriate wire between instrument cluster and ground. Ground point is located behind center of instrument panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
