Test X: Door Ajar Warning Chime Does Not Operate Properly

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Monitor Generic Electronic Module (GEM) PIDs IGN_KEY, IGN_A, IGN_S and IGN_R while cycling ignition switch through all positions. If PIDs agree with ignition switch positions, go to next step. If PIDs do not agree with ignition switch positions, perform TEST V: KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING CHIME DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY  .
  2. Using NGS tester, select GEM active command CHIME. Trigger active command CHIME on and off. If chime operates properly, go to next step. If chime does not operate properly, go to step  17 .
  3. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID D_DR_SW while opening and closing driver's door. If PID agrees with door position, go to next step. If PID does not agree with door position, go to step  5 .
  4. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID P_DR_SW while opening and closing passenger's door. If PID agrees with door position, go to step  17 . If PID does not agree with door position, go to step  11 .
  5. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID D_DR_SW while opening and closing driver's door. If PID always indicates AJAR, go to next step. If PID does not always indicate AJAR, go to step  8 .
  6. Remove driver's door trim panel and disconnect driver's door ajar switch harness connector C506. Driver's door ajar switch is located on driver's door latch, in rear of driver's door. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID D_DR_SW. If PID still indicates AJAR, go to next step. If PID now indicates CLOSED, replace driver's door ajar switch.
  7. Disconnect 20-pin Generic Electronic Module (GEM) harness connector C292. GEM is located behind left side of instrument panel, next to central junction box. Measure resistance between ground and GEM harness connector C292 terminal No. 13 (Yellow/Black wire). See Figure . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to step  17 . If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Yellow/Black wire between GEM and driver's door ajar switch. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  8. Remove driver's door trim panel and disconnect driver's door ajar switch harness connector C506. Driver's door ajar switch is located on driver's door latch, in rear of driver's door. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and Yellow/Black wire terminal at driver's door ajar switch harness connector C506. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID D_DR_SW. If PID does not indicate AJAR, go to next step. If PID indicates AJAR, go to step  10 .
  9. Disconnect 20-pin Generic Electronic Module (GEM) harness connector C292. GEM is located behind left side of instrument panel, next to central junction box. Measure resistance in Yellow/Black wire between driver's door ajar switch harness connector C506 and GEM harness connector C292 terminal No. 13. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step  17 . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Yellow/Black wire between GEM and driver's door ajar switch. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  10. Measure resistance between ground and Black wire terminal at driver's door ajar switch harness connector C506. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace driver's door ajar switch. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between driver's door ajar switch and ground. Ground point is located in left rear of vehicle. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  11. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID P_DR_SW while opening and closing passenger's door. If PID always indicates AJAR, go to next step. If PID does not always indicate AJAR, go to step  14 .
  12. Remove passenger's door trim panel and disconnect passenger's door ajar switch harness connector C601. Passenger's door ajar switch is located on passenger's door latch, in rear of passenger's door. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID P_DR_SW. If PID still indicates AJAR, go to next step. If PID now indicates CLOSED, replace passenger's door ajar switch.
  13. Disconnect 20-pin Generic Electronic Module (GEM) harness connector C292. GEM is located behind left side of instrument panel, next to central junction box. Measure resistance between ground and GEM harness connector C292 terminal No. 5 (Green/Red wire). See Figure . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to step  17 . If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Green/Red wire between GEM and passenger's door ajar switch. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  14. Remove passenger's door trim panel and disconnect passenger's door ajar switch harness connector C601. Passenger's door ajar switch is located on passenger's door latch, in rear of passenger's door. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and Green/Red wire terminal at passenger's door ajar switch harness connector C601. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID P_DR_SW. If PID does not indicate AJAR, go to next step. If PID indicates AJAR, go to step  16 .
  15. Measure resistance in Green/Red wire between passenger's door ajar switch harness connector C601 and GEM harness connector C292 terminal No. 5. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step  17 . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Green/Red wire between GEM and passenger's door ajar switch. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  16. Measure resistance between ground and passenger's door ajar switch harness connector C601 Black wire terminal. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace passenger's door ajar switch. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between passenger's door ajar switch and ground. Ground point is located in left rear of vehicle. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  17. Disconnect all GEM harness connectors. Inspect all GEM harness connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If terminals are damaged, repair as necessary. If terminals are not damaged, reconnect all GEM harness connectors. Ensure GEM harness connectors are seated properly. If problem still exists, replace GEM. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .
