Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable, and drain cooling system. Remove radiator, A/C condenser (if equipped) and grille.
  2. Remove valve lifters and timing chain. See VALVE LIFTER  and TIMING CHAIN  . Remove camshaft key, balance shaft drive gear, camshaft thrust plate and spacer. Remove camshaft. See Figure.
  3. If replacing camshaft bearings, remove engine from vehicle. Remove flexplate/flywheel. Remove rear camshaft bore plug. Use Camshaft/Balance Shaft Bearing Set (T65L-6250-A) to remove camshaft bearings.
