Removal & Disassembly (Except LS)

    NOTE: DO NOT disassemble universal joints unless external leakage or damage has occurred. DO NOT use pry bar to hold drive shaft while loosening bolts. Damage to bearing seals may result.
  1. Mark drive shaft and differential companion flange or yoke for reassembly reference. Remove drive shaft from vehicle. Scribe alignment marks on yoke and shaft for reassembly reference. If joints are rusted or corroded, apply penetrating oil before pressing out bearing races or trunnion pin. Disconnect yoke or flange bolts.
  2. Clamp "U" joint tool (T74P-4635-C) in a vise. Remove snap rings. Position drive shaft flange yoke in "U" joint tool. Press out bearing cup. Remove drive shaft flange yoke. Press on cross to remove remaining bearing cup. Remove drive shaft flange yoke.
  3. Remove cross from yoke. Reposition drive shaft in "U" joint tool and press out bearing cup. Rotate drive shaft. Press on cross to remove remaining bearing cup. Remove cross. Clean yoke area at end of drive shaft.
