Driveline Angle (LS)
WARNING:
On vehicles with electronic air suspension, suspension system MUST be disabled prior to hoisting or jacking. See DISABLING ELECTRONIC AIR SUSPENSION
under MAINTENANCE.
NOTE:
Ensure all engine and transmission mounts are in good condition before performing this procedure.
- Park vehicle on level surface. Remove exhaust heat shield and slide as far forward as possible. Rotate drive shaft several times by hand to neutralize center support bearing and flex couplings.
- Using Pinion Angle Level Gauge (205-025), place on left frame rail with tool facing passenger side of vehicle. See Fig 1 . Zero tool with thumbscrew. Mark location where tool was zeroed with a paint pen.
- Attach Driveline Angle Adapter (205-449), to flex coupling by removing one of the nuts that attaches flex coupling to transmission flange. See Fig 2 . Replace nut and tighten. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install Pinion Angle Level Gauge in slot of Driveline Angle Adapter, with gauge facing toward passenger side. See Fig 3 . Record reading for measurement "A" at joint No. 1. See Fig 4 . Remove tools and tighten nut. SeeTORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Repeat this measurement procedure for front drive shaft angle ("B") with angle adapter attached at flex coupling to front drive shaft. Repeat again for rear drive shaft angle ("C") with angle adapter attached at flex coupling to rear drive shaft. Repeat again for pinion angle ("D") with angle adapter attached at flex coupling to pinon flange. See Fig 4 . Record measurements.
- Calculate angles of joints 1, 2 and 3;
- A-B = Joint 1
- B-C = Joint 2
- C-D = Joint 3
- Adjust joint angles (if necessary) by varying center support bearing adjusting washers. Adjusting washers are available from .079" (2 mm) to .28" (7 mm) in increments of .04 (1 mm). See CENTER SUPPORT BEARING ADJUSTING WASHER SELECTION
. Left and right washers should be same thickness. DO NOT assemble washers together.CENTER SUPPORT BEARING ADJUSTING WASHER SELECTION
