Disabling System (Crown Victoria & Grand Marquis)
- Record preset radio frequencies for reprogramming (if equipped). Move and tilt seats to the highest and rearmost positions. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for backup power supply to deplete stored energy.
- Remove driver air bag module. See DRIVER AIR BAG MODULE . Connect appropriate air bag simulators to clockspring connectors at top of steering column (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR .
- Remove passenger air bag module. See PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE . Connect appropriate air bag simulators to passenger air bag vehicle harness connectors (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATOR .
- Disconnect driver side air bag electrical connector. Side air bag connectors are located under front seats. Connect an air bag simulator to connector. See AIR BAG SIMULATOR . Repeat for passenger's side air bag. Connect negative battery cable.
CAUTION:
On vehicles equipped with side air bags and seat belt pretensioners, manufacturer recommends removing front seats from vehicle before performing any diagnostics or repairs to air bag or seat belt pretensioner system. For diagnostics on systems other than side air bags or seat belt pretensioners, seats may be left in vehicle as long as simulator tool is installed in place of side air bag and seat belt pretensioner harness.
