Possible Causes

A right side air bag circuit high resistance could be caused by high resistance on Green-Red wire (circuit 15S-JA15), a high resistance on Black-Orange wire (circuit 91S-JA15), high resistance in right side air bag module or an RCM internal fault.

  1. Check right side air bag

Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform on-demand self-test. See ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST  under DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC B1998 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1998 is not retrieved, replace right side air bag module. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING FAULT CODES  under DIAGNOSTICS. Repeat on-demand self-test.
  2. Check right side air bag module circuit

Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Access RCM and disconnect harness connector C423. See RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect right side air bag simulator. Measure resistance of Green-Red wire between RCM harness connector C423, terminals No. 23 and under-seat connector C31, terminal No. 9. See Figure & Figure . Measure resistance of Black-Orange wire between RCM harness connector C423, terminals No. 24 and under-seat connector C31, terminal No. 10. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RCM. Activate air bag system. Clear DTCs. Repeat on-demand self-test. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Green-Red or Black-Orange wire as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If no voltage is present, replace RCM. Activate air bag system. Clear DTCs. Repeat on-demand self-test.
