Possible Causes

Passenger-side air bag circuit capacitance out of range could be caused by poor connection, corrosion or excessive resistance in wiring harness, air bag module or an internal RCM fault.

  1. Check passenger-side air bag

    Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform on-demand self-test. See ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST  under DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC B1920 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1920 is not retrieved, replace passenger-side air bag module. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING FAULT CODES  under DIAGNOSTICS. Repeat on-demand self-test.
  2. Check passenger-side air bag module circuit

    Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Access RCM and disconnect harness connector C424. See RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect passenger-side air bag simulator. Measure resistance of Green-White wire between RCM harness connector C424, terminals No. 5 and passenger-side air bag module harness connector. See Figure. Measure resistance of Black-White wire between RCM harness connector C424, terminals No. 6 and passenger-side air bag module harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RCM. Activate air bag system. Clear DTCs. Repeat on-demand self-test. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Green-White or Black-White wire as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Activate air bag system. Clear DTCs. Repeat on-demand self-test.
