Test K: Fuel Reset Indicator Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch harness 3-pin connector C203. Switch is located under instrument panel, below radio. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a fused (7.5-amp) jumper wire between ground and IFS switch harness connector Gray/Orange wire terminal. If fuel reset indicator illuminates, IFS switch has been tripped (button up) or switch is defective. Check IFS switch. See ENGINE SENSORS & SWITCHES in appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If fuel reset indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove fuel reset indicator bulb. Check for continuity between fuel reset indicator bulb terminals. If continuity exists, bulb is okay. Go to next step. If continuity does not exist, bulb is defective. Replace bulb. Recheck system operation.
- Measure resistance of Gray/Orange wire between instrument cluster Black 12-pin harness connector C287 terminal No. 10 at and IFS switch harness connector C203. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Gray/Orange wire between instrument cluster and IFS switch. Recheck system operation.
