Test E: Speedometer/Odometer Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster White 10-pin harness connector C288 terminal No. 7 (White/Yellow wire). See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in White/Yellow wire between instrument cluster connector and fuse No. 25 located in Central Junction Box (CJB). Recheck system operation.
- Measure resistance of printed circuit between speedometer pins (in center of clips) and corresponding instrument cluster connector terminal. See SPEEDOMETER PRINTED CIRCUIT CHECK

. If all resistance measurements are less than one ohm, go to next step. If any resistance measurement is one ohm or more, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT

Speedometer Pin (1) Instrument Cluster Connector (Terminal No.) Batt White 10-Pin Connector C288 (7) "B" White 16-Pin Connector C286 (13) "G" Black 12-Pin Connector C287 (2) "S" Black 12-Pin Connector C287 (1) (1) See Figure , Figure and Figure . - Disconnect Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module 25-pin harness connector C186. ABS control module is located in left rear corner of engine compartment. Measure resistance of Gray/Black wire between instrument cluster Black harness connector C186 terminal No. 1 and ABS module harness connector terminal No. 10. See Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace speedometer. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Black wire between instrument cluster connector and ABS module. Recheck system operation.
NOTE:
Measurements must be made at speedometer gauge pins inside instrument cluster printed circuit clips.
