Test S: Door Ajar Warning Indicator Inoperative, Chime Operative

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) or Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) self-test. Clear continuous DTCs. Perform GEM self-test again. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1323 or B1325 is retrieved, go to step  3. If DTC B1355 is retrieved, go to step  9. If DTC B1342 is retrieved, go to step  12.
  2. Using NGS/WDS tester, observe GEM PID DRAJRL while opening and closing each door. If PID DRAJRL reads correctly, go to next step. If PID DRAJRL does not read correctly, repair interior light circuits. See INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. If door ajar indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If door ajar indicator illuminates, go to step  8.
  4. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If door ajar indicator does not remain on after 5-second prove out, go to next step. If door ajar indicator remains on after 5-second prove out, go to step  10.
  5. Observe door ajar indicator. Using NGS/WDS tester, toggle GEM active command DOOR AJAR ON and OFF. If door ajar indicator does not function correctly, go to next step. If door ajar indicator functions correctly, go to step  12.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C240A. Remove instrument cluster to gain access to instrument cluster harness connectors. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Disconnect instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C250C. Measure resistance of Dark Green/Orange wire between GEM 26-pin harness connector C240A terminal No. 11 and instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C250C terminal No. 2. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green/Orange wire between instrument cluster and GEM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  7. Reconnect instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C250C. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and GEM 26-pin harness connector C240A terminal No. 11 (Dark Green/Orange wire). If door ajar indicator illuminates, reconnect all harness connectors and go to step  12. If door ajar indicator does not illuminate, go to step  13.
  8. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C240A. Measure voltage between ground and GEM 26-pin harness connector C240A terminal No. 11 (Dark Green/Orange wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step  12.
  9. Remove instrument cluster to gain access to instrument cluster harness connectors. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Disconnect instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C250C. Measure voltage between ground and GEM 26-pin harness connector C240A terminal No. 11 (Dark Green/Orange wire). See Figure. If battery voltage is present, repair short to power in Dark Green/Orange wire between instrument cluster and GEM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation. If battery voltage is not present, replace instrument cluster. Retest system operation.
  10. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster to gain access to instrument cluster harness connectors. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Disconnect instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C250C. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C250C terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Orange wire). See Figure. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to step  13.
  11. Disconnect GEM connectors. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C250C terminal No. 2 (Dark Green/Orange wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Orange wire between instrument cluster and GEM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  12. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and harness connectors that are not connected correctly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose harness connectors. Retest system operation. If problem still exists, replace GEM. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . If problem does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear any DTCs. Retest system operation.
  13. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster to gain access to DOOR AJAR indicator bulb. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Remove bulb. Check bulb for continuity. If bulb is okay, replace instrument cluster. Retest system operation. If bulb is not okay, replace bulb. Retest system operation.
