Test K: Yellow Brake (Abs) Warning Indicator Always/Never On

NOTE: ABS warning indicator may also be referred to as anti-lock brake indicator.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position, then to ON position. Observe ABS warning indicator. If ABS indicator proves out go to next step. If ABS indicator does not prove out, go to step  4.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module 24-pin harness connector C104A. ABS module is located in left front of engine compartment, near air cleaner. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Observe ABS warning indicator. If indicator illuminates, go to next step. If indicator does not illuminate, diagnose ABS. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and ABS module 24-pin harness connector C104A terminal No. 1 (Dark Green wire). See Figure. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Retest system operation. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Dark Green wire between instrument cluster and ABS module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  4. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and ABS module 24-pin harness connector C104A terminal No. 1 (Dark Green wire). See Figure. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If ABS warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If ABS warning indicator illuminates, diagnose ABS problem. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster to gain access to instrument cluster harness connectors. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Disconnect instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C250C. Measure resistance of Dark Green wire between ABS module 24-pin harness connector C104A terminal No. 1 and instrument cluster 24-pin harness connector C250C terminal No. 11. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster. Retest system operation. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green wire between instrument cluster and ABS module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
