Fuel Gauge Test

NOTE: Non-California models are equipped with a 4-pin fuel tank assembly harness connector (C441). See Figure. California models are equipped with an 8-pin fuel tank assembly harness connector (C442). See Figure.
  1. On bi-fueled vehicles, toggle alternative fuel mode select switch to gasoline mode. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect fuel tank assembly harness connector. Connect one lead of Instrument Gauge System Tester (014-R1063) to Yellow/White wire terminal at fuel tank assembly harness connector and other tester lead to ground. Connect a 22.4 ohm resistor between fuel tank assembly harness connector Yellow/White wire terminal and ground. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Wait one minute. Fuel gauge should read empty.
  2. Set tester to 15 ohms. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Wait one minute and read fuel gauge. Gauge should read "E" (empty) or below. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position.
  3. Set tester to 160 ohms. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Wait one minute and read gauge. Gauge should read "F" (full) or above. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. If gauge does not operate as specified, replace instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect a 145 ohm resistor between fuel tank assembly harness connector Yellow/White wire terminal and ground. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Wait one minute. Fuel gauge should read full. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position.
