Test W: 4X4/4X4 Low Range Indicator Inoperative (Manual Shift)

NOTE: Tests skip from TEST T to TEST W. No tests have been omitted.
  1. Disconnect 4X4 range switch 2-pin harness connector C161. 4X4 range switch is located below center of vehicle, near Digital Transmission Range (DTR) sensor. DTR sensor is located on left side of transmission. If customer concern is inoperative 4X4 indicator, connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and Light Blue wire terminal at 4X4 range switch 2-pin harness connector. If customer concern is inoperative 4X4 LOW RANGE indicator, connect jumper wire between ground and Light Blue/Black wire terminal at 4X4 range switch 2-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If indicator illuminates, replace 4X4 range switch.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster to access inoperative indicator bulb. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Remove inoperative indicator bulb. Test bulb for continuity. If bulb is okay, go to next step. If bulb is not okay, replace bulb. Retest system operation.
  3. If 4X4 indicator is inoperative, measure resistance of Light Blue wire between 4X4 range switch 2-pin harness connector C161 and instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C250C terminal No. 4. See Figure. If 4X4 LOW RANGE indicator is inoperative, measure resistance of Light Blue/Black wire between 4X4 switch 2-pin harness connector C161 and instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C250C terminal No. 10. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Retest system operation. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire(s) between instrument cluster and 4X4 switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
