Test F: Oil Pressure Gauge Reads Incorrectly

NOTE: For proper operation of oil gauge, ensure oil is at correct level and oil pressure switch harness connector is securely attached. Ensure engine to chassis and engine to bulkhead ground straps are securely fastened. A momentary drop in oil pressure during hard braking is normal.
  1. Turn ignition switch to START position. Check oil pressure gauge. If both oil pressure gauge and oil pressure warning indicators indicate low oil pressure, go to next step. If both oil pressure gauge and oil pressure warning indicators do not indicate low oil pressure, replace instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Retest system operation.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect oil pressure switch 1-pin harness connector C135. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and White/Red wire terminal at oil pressure switch 1-pin harness connector C135. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If oil pressure gauge reads normal pressure, check engine oil pressure. If oil pressure is okay, replace oil pressure switch. Retest system operation. If gauge does not read normal pressure, disconnect jumper wire and go to next step.
  3. Remove instrument cluster to gain access to instrument cluster harness connectors. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C250B. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure resistance of White/Red wire between oil pressure switch 1-pin harness connector C135 and instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C250B terminal No. 11. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster. Retest system operation. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in White/Red wire between instrument cluster and oil pressure switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
