Removal (Rear - Dana 80)

  1. Set parking brake. Loosen and remove axle-to-hub bolts. See Figure. Release parking brake. Raise and support vehicle. Remove tire and wheel assembly.
  2. Remove caliper anchor plate. Remove axle shaft. See AXLE SHAFT . For F-350, using Hub Locknut Wrench (205-282), remove inner rear wheel bearing hub nut. For F-450 and F-550, use a suitable socket to remove hub nut. Remove outer bearing cone and pull rear hub and rotor assembly straight out and away from rear axle. Remove rear hub bolts and separate rear hub from rear disc brake rotor. Inspect rear hub for cracks or oversized holes. Replace as necessary.
  3. Remove inner seal from rear hub assembly using a screwdriver, avoiding damage to bearing or hub bore. Discard seal. Remove rear wheel bearing. Clean all old grease and axle lubricant out of rear hub. Using Inner Bearing Race Remover (205-277), remove inner bearing race. Using Outer Bearing Race Remover (205-275), remove outer bearing race.
  4. Clean spindle, wheel bearings and races. Inspect bearing races and rollers for pitting galling or erratic wear patterns. Inspect rollers for end wear and replace as necessary.
