Test U: No Communication With ECS Module

  1. Check connections for damage

    Turn ignition off. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access ECS module and disconnect harness connector. See ELECTRONIC CRASH SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect ECS module terminals and module harness connector terminal No. 19 for damage. See Figure . If module terminals and module harness connector terminal No. 19 are okay, go to next step. If module terminals and module harness connector terminal No. 19 are damaged, repair/replace as necessary. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
    NOTE: On some applications, Orange/Blue wire may be Light Blue/White.
  2. Check DLC for damage

    Inspect Data Link Connector (DLC) and DLC connector terminal No. 7 (Orange/Blue wire) for damage. See Fig 1 . DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. If DLC connector and DLC connector terminal No. 7 (Orange/Blue wire) is okay, go to next step. If DLC connector and DLC connector terminal No. 7 (Orange/Blue wire) is damaged, repair/replace as necessary. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  3. Check circuit 70 for open

    Measure resistance of Orange/Blue wire between DLC connector terminal No. 7 and ECS module harness connector terminal No. 19. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace ECS module. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Orange/Light Blue wire. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
