Test Z: Transmission Selector Illumination Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove transmission selector bulb. Check continuity between terminals of bulb. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace transmission selector bulb.
  2. Disconnect transmission selector illumination harness connector. Turn parking lights on. Measure voltage between ground and transmission selector illumination harness connector Red/Black wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Red/Black wire.
  3. NOTE: Ensure instrument cluster connector C252 is connected or inaccurate results will occur. See Figure .
  4. Measure voltage between ground and transmission selector illumination harness connector Red wire while rotating rheostat from left to right. If voltage range is .2-11 volts, repair or replace transmission selector illumination socket assembly. If voltage range is not .2-11 volts, repair open in Red wire.
