Test X: Instrument Panel Illumination Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C252. See Figure . Turn parking lights on. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster connector C252 terminal No. 5 (Red/Black wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Red/Black wire.
  2. NOTE: Ensure transmission selector illumination harness connector is connected or inaccurate results will occur.
  3. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster connector C252 terminal No. 4 (Red wire) while rotating rheostat from left to right. If voltage range is .2-11 volts, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage range is not .2-11 volts, repair open in Red wire.
