Test W: Instrument Panel Illumination Will Not Dim

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument panel dimming module (dimmer switch) connector C221. Turn parking lights on. Measure voltage between ground and instrument panel dimming module connector terminal No. 4 (Red/Black wire). See Fig 1 . If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn parking lights off and go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair short to voltage in Red/Yellow wire.
  2. Measure resistance between ground and instrument panel dimming module connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  3. Disconnect transmission selector illumination harness connector. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C252. See Figure . Disconnect Integrated Control Panel (ICP) connector C274 (radio). See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and instrument panel dimming module connector C221 terminals No. 6 (Green wire) and No. 1 (Red wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace instrument panel dimming module. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Green or Red wire.
