Test J: Improper Charge Warning Operation: Coupe

  1. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove charge system warning light bulb. Check continuity between terminals of bulb. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace charge system warning light bulb.
  2. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C253. See Figure . Disconnect generator voltage regulator 3-pin connector C159. Measure resistance of White/Blue wire between instrument cluster harness connector C253 terminal No. 11 and voltage regulator harness connector C159. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster electrical harness connector C253 terminal No. 11 (White/Blue wire). Resistance should be more than 10 k/ohms. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster electrical harness connector C252 terminal No. 11 (White/Blue wire). See Figure . Resistance should be more than 10 k/ohms. If resistances are as specified, go to next step. If resistances are not as specified, repair open or short to ground in White/Blue wire between appropriate instrument cluster connector and generator voltage regulator connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Visually inspect instrument cluster printed circuit for damage, cracks or hot spots. If instrument cluster printed circuit is okay, check charging system. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If instrument cluster printed circuit is damaged, replace printed circuit and gauge contact clips. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
