Test H: Improper Anti-Theft Warning Operation: Coupe

  1. Arm anti-theft system. If anti-theft system arms properly, go to next step. If anti-theft system does not arm properly, see ACTIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - ESCORT & TRACER article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C252. See Figure . Disconnect 22-pin Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module harness connector C404, located in luggage compartment. See Figure . Measure resistance of Yellow/Purple wire between RAP module connector C404 terminal No. 16 and instrument cluster harness connector C252 terminal No. 9. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C252 terminal No. 9 (Yellow/Purple wire). Resistance should be more than 10 k/ohms. If resistances are as specified, reconnect RAP module connector and go to next step. If resistances are not as specified, repair open or short to ground in Yellow/Purple wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Monitor LEDFLASH PID. If LEDFLASH PID indicates ENABLED, go to next step. If LEDFLASH PID does not indicate ENABLED, go to active command menu and enable LED FLASH WHEN ARMED command. Retest system.
  4. Visually inspect instrument cluster printed circuit for damage, cracks or hot spots. If instrument cluster printed circuit is okay, go to next step. If instrument cluster printed circuit is damaged, replace printed circuit and gauge contact clips. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Arm anti-theft system. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C252 terminal No. 9 (Yellow/Purple wire). Voltage should be about 2 volts. If voltage is about 2 volts and concern is indicator always on, see ACTIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - ESCORT & TRACER article to perform RAP disarm procedure. If voltage is about 2 volts and concern is indicator always off, replace THEFT warning indicator LED. If voltage is not about 2 volts, replace RAP module.
