Test C: DTC P1450: Excessive Vacuum Detected In Fuel Tank: Focus
- 1) Check For Visual Cause Of Excessive Fuel Tank Vacuum -
Check for kinks or bends in fuel vapor hoses and tubes. Inspect EVAP canister inlet port, canister vent solenoid filter or outlet hose for contamination or foreign material. Check canister vent solenoid for blockage or contamination. If any conditions are present, repair or clean as necessary and go to next step. If no conditions are present, go to next step.
- 2) Check For Blockage Between EVAP Canister Vent Solenoid & EVAP Test Port
Disconnect and plug EVAP return tube at intake manifold. Plug canister vent solenoid or canister vent hose. Using Evaporative Emissions System Leak Tester (134-00056) or equivalent connected to EVAP test port, pressurize system to 3.48 kPa (14 In. H2O). Remove plug from canister vent solenoid or canister vent hose. If pressure drops immediately, go to next step. If pressure does not drop immediately, go to TEST D .
- 3) Check Fuel Filler Cap
Move EVAP Tester to fuel filler pipe. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, close canister vent solenoid. Select OUTPUT TEST MODE, FTP and VPID. Select ALL OFF mode. Press START button on scan tool to close canister vent solenoid. Pressurize system to 3.48 kPa (14 In. H2O). Using ultrasonic leak detector, check fuel filler cap and EVAP test port. If leak is detected, replace fuel filler cap and go to next step. If no leak is detected, go to next step.
- 4) Check For Blockage Between Fuel Filler Pipe & EVAP Test Port
Pressurize system to 3.48 kPa (14 In. H2O). Remove fuel filler cap. If pressure drops immediately, go to next step. If pressure does not drop immediately, go to TEST D .
- 5) Check For Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor PID Without Pressure Applied
Remove fuel filler cap. Using scan tool, access PCM PID FTP V. Record reading. If PCM PID FTP V is 2.40-2.80 volts, go to next step. If PCM PID FTP V is not as specified, go to TEST HX, step 21) under SYSTEM TESTS.
- 6) Check for Stuck Open EVAP Canister Purge Valve At Idle
Using scan tool, open canister vent solenoid. Remove plug from EVAP return tube and reconnect tube to intake manifold. Ensure fuel filler cap is properly installed. Access PCM PIDs FTP V and EVAPPDC. Start engine and allow to idle. If when EVAPPDC PID is zero, FTP V PID is less than 2.40 volts, replace EVAP canister purge valve. Perform evaporative emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes, perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS REPAIR VERIFICATION DRIVE CYCLE. See DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURES under ADDITIONAL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS. If when EVAPPDC PID is zero, FTP V PID is 2.40 volts or more, perform evaporative emissions system leak test. See EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM LEAK TEST . If system passes, perform EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS REPAIR VERIFICATION DRIVE CYCLE. See DRIVE CYCLE PROCEDURES under ADDITIONAL SYSTEM FUNCTIONS.
