Escort & Villager

  1. Place gear selector lever in Park. Loosen shift cable nut at transmission. Move shift cable fully rearward. Check cable for any tension or restriction of movement, and then tighten cable nut.
  2. Check for park gear engagement. Start engine and ensure indicated gear positions match transmission response. Verify vehicle only starts in Park and Neutral, and back-up lights operate. If operation is not okay, check transmission range sensor adjustment. See TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR .
