Removal (LS)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove catalytic converter. Remove heat shield and retainers.
    2. NOTE: Index mark fasteners from flex coupling to transmission and pinion flange to ensure they are installed in their original location.
  2. Using Drive Shaft Coupler (205-474), loosen but DO NOT remove drive shaft-to-flex coupling bolts. Remove nuts and washers. Separate front shaft, slide rearward, and wire aside. Support transmission with transmission jack, and secure with chain or strap. Remove transmission mounts.
  3. Disconnect gearshift cable. Lower transmission to access sensors. Disconnect Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor, Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor, and Intermediate Shaft Speed (ISS) sensor. Remove sensor harnesses. Disconnect harness retainers. Remove oxygen sensor connector. Remove gearshift cable bracket and cable. Disconnect Transmission Range (TR) sensor.
  4. Disconnect transmission cooler lines and remove bracket. On 3.0L models, remove starter. Place reference marks on torque converter and drive plate for reassembly reference. Remove torque converter-to-drive plate bolts. Lower transmission from vehicle.
