Installation (3.0L 2V - Sable & Taurus)

  1. Install the rear engine support bracket and bolts. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the bracket. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. NOTE: Locate and align the orange dot adjacent to the stud on the torque converter and place it in the 6 o'clock position. Install the transaxle.
  3. Position the transaxle on a High Lift jack. Apply Multi-Purpose Grease (D0AZ-19584-AA) meeting Ford specification ESB-M1C93-B or equivalent to the torque converter pilot hub. See Fig 1.

  5. Install the bolts. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the transaxle retaining bolts. See Figure and Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  6. Install NEW torque to flexplate nuts. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the transaxle housing cover. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Install the starter motor. Install the LH and RH half shaft. See Fig 2 and Fig 3 .

    CAUTION: If the steering gear was removed with the subframe and there is evidence that the steering column intermediate shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be recentered before the vehicle is driven or damage to the clockspring can result.
  9. Install the subframe assembly. Remove the LH and RH Engine Lifting Bracket. See Figure and Figure .
  10. Remove the engine support. See Figure. Install the bolts. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Reconnect the transaxle fluid cooler tubes. See Figure.
  11. Install the retaining clips. See Figure. Install the bracket and ground cable. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  12. Verify that the digital Transaxle Range (TR) sensor is correctly adjusted. See TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR under ADJUSTMENTS in SERVICING article.
  13. Install the manual control lever cable and nut. Install the manual control lever cable into the bracket. See Figure. Tighten the nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  14. Reconnect the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor connector. See Figure. Reconnect the power steering and Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor. See Figure.
  15. Install the electrical connector bracket. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the power steering line bracket. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  16. Reconnect the connectors. See Figure and Figure . Install the battery tray. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the air filter assembly. See Figure.
  17. Install the engine air cleaner. See Figure. Reconnect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and the breather tubes. See Figure.
  18. Install the battery. Fill the transaxle using appropriate transaxle fluid. See RECOMMENDED FLUIDS and FLUID CAPACITIES under LUBRICATION in SERVICING article.
  19. Start the engine. Move the transaxle range selector lever through all positions. Check the fluid level. See CHECKING FLUID LEVELS under LUBRICATION in SERVICING article.
