Coil Spring & Strut Assembly: Removal
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Ensure steering column is not locked. Raise and support vehicle. Remove the wheel knuckle. See STEERING KNUCKLE . Remove nut and disconnect stabilizer link. Discard nut. Remove brake hose bracket from strut.
- Lower vehicle far enough to access strut and spring assembly-to-body nuts. If necessary, detach washer hose nut. Remove nuts, strut and spring assembly. Discard nuts.WARNING: Strut assembly is under spring tension. Attempting to disassemble strut without correctly compressing spring can result in personal injury.
- Compress spring using spring compressor. Note the position of each washer during removal for installation reference. While holding strut rod, remove and discard the nut. Remove cupped washer, upper mount and seat-bearing assembly. Inspect upper mount and seat-bearing assembly. Spring insulator should not be cracked, torn or distorted, and bearing should turn freely without grinding. If necessary, install NEW upper mount and seat-bearing assembly. Remove spring and dished washer. See Figure .
