Seat Belt PRETENSIONER

The front seat belt buckle contains a pyrotechnic device that when signaled by the Restraints Control Module (RCM), removes excess webbing from seat belt system. Seat belt buckles are equipped with a switch which indicates to the RCM whether the seat belts are connected (in use) or disconnected (not in use). The RCM uses this information in determining deployment rate of dual-stage driver-side air bag module.
