Sable & Taurus: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable.
- Remove the LH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER .
- Remove the RH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER .
- Remove the power steering pump. .
- Remove the retaining nut and position the power steering pressure line and muffler out of the way.
- Remove the upper retaining bolts from the generator.
- Remove the bolts, nuts and the engine-to-transaxle bracket.
- Remove the torque converter inspection cover.
- Remove the front pin-type retainers and position the front rocker panel moulding aside.
- Remove the rear portion of the front fender splash shield.
- Remove the screws and the pin-type retainers.
- Remove the two screws and the alternator splash shield.
- Install the Flywheel Holding Tool.
- Remove the crankshaft damper pulley.
- Remove the crankshaft damper bolt and washer.
- Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft damper.
- Remove the Flywheel Holding Tool.
- Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector. Remove the bolt and the CKP sensor.
- Remove the alternator bolt and remove the alternator.
- Disconnect the alternator electrical connectors. Remove the nut and the B+ wire terminal. Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the bolts and the A/C compressor to front cover bracket.
- Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector. Remove the bolt and remove the CMP sensor.
- Remove the tie strap from the power steering hose.
- Remove the retaining nut and position the A/C low pressure hose out of the way.
- Remove the bolts and position the A/C high pressure hose on top of the belt tensioner.
- Remove the bolt and remove the belt tensioner.
- Disconnect the engine cooling fan electrical connector and unclip the wiring harness.
- Remove the bolt and the engine cooling fan.
- Install the special tools to support the engine.
- Remove the two upper A/C compressor bolts.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the two lower A/C compressor bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.
- Remove the bolts from the A/C bracket.
- Remove the two oil pan front cover bolts.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Raise the engine away from the A/C bracket using the engine support tool.
- Remove the bolts, studs and the engine front cover.
NOTE:
The pulley bolt has a reverse thread.
