- Depower the system. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
- Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to Driver Air Bag Module .
- Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN article.
- Apply 2 strips of masking tape across the clockspring to prevent accidental rotation.
- Twist the tilt wheel handle and shank and remove.
- Remove the steering column opening lower finish panel.
- Remove the 3 screws and the lower steering column shroud.
- Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.
- Position the lock cylinder to RUN.
- Using a suitable tool, push upward on the cylinder release tab while pulling the cylinder outward.
- Remove the upper steering column shroud.
NOTE:
Make sure the wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
- Remove the key-in-ignition warning indicator switch.
- Remove the clockspring electrical connectors and wire harness from the side of the steering column.
- Remove the clockspring electrical connectors from the bracket.
- Disconnect the remaining electrical connectors.
- Remove the wire harness retainers.
- Remove the clockspring electrical connectors from the bracket.
- Remove the clockspring.
- Release the retaining clips.
- Remove the clockspring.
