Depower the system. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering .
Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to Driver Air Bag Module .

NOTE: Make sure the wheels are in the straight-ahead position.

Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN article.

Apply 2 strips of masking tape across the clockspring to prevent accidental rotation.
Twist the tilt wheel handle and shank and remove.
Remove the steering column opening lower finish panel.
Remove the 3 screws and the lower steering column shroud.

Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.
1. Position the lock cylinder to RUN.
2. Using a suitable tool, push upward on the cylinder release tab while pulling the cylinder outward.
Remove the upper steering column shroud.

Remove the key-in-ignition warning indicator switch.

Remove the clockspring electrical connectors and wire harness from the side of the steering column.
- Remove the clockspring electrical connectors from the bracket.
  - Disconnect the remaining electrical connectors.
- Remove the wire harness retainers.

Remove the clockspring.
- Release the retaining clips.
- Remove the clockspring.
