Transfer Case Front Output Shaft Seal: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. Remove the skid plate, if equipped.

  3. NOTE: Index-mark the front driveshaft and the transfer case front flange to maintain driveline balance.
  4. Remove the front driveshaft. For additional information, refer to DRIVESHAFT article.
  5. Using the special tool to prevent the flange from turning, remove and discard the front driveshaft flange nut.

  6. Using a suitable 2- or 3-jaw puller, remove the flange.

  7. Using the special tools, remove the front output seal.

  8. Inspect the flange seal surface for wear or damage. Install a new flange, if necessary.
