Differential Case and Ring Gear - One Piece, Conventional: Disassembly

  1. Remove the differential carrier. For additional information, refer to Differential Carrier .
  2. Fig 1: Identifying 12 Differential Ring Gear Bolts

  3. Remove and discard the 12 ring gear bolts.

  5. Insert a punch in the bolt holes and drive the ring gear off.

    NOTE: The anti-lock speed sensor ring cannot be reused once removed.
  7. If necessary, remove and discard the anti-lock speed sensor ring.

  9. Using the special tools, remove the differential bearings.

  11. Remove and discard the differential pinion shaft lock bolt.

  13. Remove the differential pinion shaft.

  15. Rotate and remove the differential pinion gears and differential pinion thrust washers.

  17. Remove the differential side gears and the differential side gear thrust washers.
