Integrated Wheel End (IWE): Installation

- Compress the IWE and install a vacuum cap on the vacuum port.
- Install the IWE onto the halfshaft outboard end.
- Once clearance is available, install the halfshaft outboard end into the hub bearing.
- Connect the upper ball joint and install a new nut to the wheel knuckle.
- Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).
- Connect the tie-rod and install a new nut to the wheel knuckle.
- Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).
- Install the 3 IWE-to-wheel knuckle retaining bolts.
- Tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
- Remove the IWE vacuum cap and connect the vacuum tubes to the IWE.
- Install the new axle nut.
- Tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
- Install the dust cap.
- Install the front wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to WHEELS AND TIRES article.
NOTE:
Do not dislodge the IWE seal spring when installing the IWE on halfshaft outboard end or component damage may occur.
NOTE:
Allow the wheel knuckle to swing outward while keeping the halfshaft pushed inward.
NOTE:
Verify the spline engagement by checking for spline lash before installing the axle nut or component damage may occur.
