Intake Manifold: Removal

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before servicing or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  1. Disconnect the fuel hose spring lock coupling. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
  3. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
  4. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING article.
  5. Remove the ignition coils. For additional information, refer to ENGINE IGNITION - 4.6L (2V) article.
  6. Remove the generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR AND REGULATOR article.
  7. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module tube.
  8. Disconnect the EGR system module electrical connector.
  9. Disconnect the quick connect couplings and remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  10. Disconnect the electronic throttle control electrical connector.
  11. Disconnect the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor electrical connector.
  12. Disconnect the fuel rail pressure and temperature sensor vacuum connector.
  13. Disconnect the 8 fuel injector electrical connectors.
  14. Disconnect the vacuum and coolant hose and plug the coolant hose.

  16. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose and the evaporative emissions (EVAP) hose quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.

  18. Disconnect the upper radiator coolant hose and position aside.

  20. Disconnect the heater coolant hose and position aside.

  22. Remove the 3 power steering reservoir support bracket bolts and the power steering reservoir support bracket.

  24. Disconnect the vacuum hose.

  26. Remove the 2 thermostat housing bolts and the thermostat housing and discard the O-ring seal.
  27. Remove the thermostat.
  28. Remove the 9 intake manifold bolts.
  29. Remove the intake manifold and discard the RH and LH intake manifold gaskets.
