Crankshaft Rear Seal with Retainer Plate: Installation

    NOTE: The rear crankshaft seal retainer plate does not have a sealant groove. Gasket maker must be applied to the rear crankshaft seal retainer plate mating surface on the engine block.
  1. Apply a bead of gasket maker to the rear crankshaft seal retainer plate mating surface on the engine block.

  3. Position the crankshaft seal retainer plate and tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

    NOTE: Lubricate the crankshaft rear seal with clean engine oil prior to installation.
  5. Using the special tools, install a new crankshaft rear seal.

    NOTE: Lubricate the crankshaft oil slinger with clean engine oil prior to installation.
  7. Using the special tools, install a new crankshaft oil slinger.

  9. Install the oil pan. For additional information, refer to Oil Pan  in section.
  10. Install the engine rear cover plate.
  11. Install the flexplate and the 6 bolts. Tighten the bolts in 2 stages in the sequence shown.
    • Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
    • Stage 2: Tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft).
