Power Transfer Unit (PTU) Draining and Filling

NOTE:
The power transfer unit (PTU) is lubed for life and is not to be drained unless a leak is suspected. To drain the PTU fluid, the PTU must be removed from the vehicle. For additional information, refer to POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU)

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Remove the fill plug and washer. Fill the PTU with axle lubricant to the specified level.
- Install a new washer and fill plug.
- Tighten to 49 N.m (36 lb-ft).
CAUTION:
PTU failure can result if the correct fill procedure is not followed.
NOTE:
The fluid level must be even with the bottom of the fill hole with the vehicle on a flat level surface.
