Test A: No Communication With Instrument Cluster

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Ford Mustang and 1999 Ford Mustang. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C251. Measure voltage at terminal No. 10 (Red/White wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C251. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair power distribution circuit. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 11 (Pink/Black wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C251. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair power distribution circuit. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C251. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 12 (White/Light Blue wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C251. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair power distribution circuit. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 20 (Black/White wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C251. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/White wire.
  5. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C251. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair module communication concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - MUSTANG article. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
