Pin Point Test A: No Communication With The Instrument Cluster

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2006 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2006 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. A1 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER VOLTAGE SUPPLY
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a, C220b.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster, harness side and ground as follows:
      INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE

      Instrument Cluster Connector-Pin Circuit
      C220a-13 640 (RD/YE)
      C220a-22 1002 (BK/PK)
      C220b-19 3049 (BK/LG)
    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?

    Yes  : GO to A2.

No  : VERIFY the central junction box (CJB) fuse(s) 2 (10A), 33 (15A), and 45 (10A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

  2. A2 CHECK CIRCUITS 57 (BK) AND 676 (PK/OG) FOR AN OPEN
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster, harness side and ground as follows:
      INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE

      Instrument Cluster Connector-Pin Circuit
      C220a-10 57 (BK)
      C220b-12 676 (PK/OG)
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

Yes  : REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to continue diagnosis of the communication network.

No  : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
