Removal and Installation

  1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
  3. Remove and discard the steering wheel bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 38 Nm (28 lb-ft).
  4. CAUTION: Removing the steering wheel without using a puller can damage the column bearings.
  5. Using the special tool, remove the steering wheel.
    • Remove the steering wheel while routing the wires from the clockspring through the steering wheel.

  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
